A Possible Model For Blog Advertising

Influential, then Commercial

Blogs,unlike online diaries, offer deep-insight focus on various issues,which are certainly a potent form of CGM(consumer-generated media),unpaid but influential. Since blogs are influential, they surely have commercial value.

The individualized reading of blog makes the readers of a certain blog individualized,which gives possibility to display the targeted advertisement from the targeted blog visitor to enhance the effect of ad publishing, just like what Googel Adwords has done.

Accuracy is the most essential requirement for blog ads,because blog reading is such a personal and somewhat anti-commercial experience that any abuse of unrelated ads will led to severe repulsion for the blogger. Blog ads must also provide something useful or interesting for the readers.Therefore, it seems inevitable for a search engine to launch blog ads service to put the proper ad in the proper blog entry, based on its proper algorithm for blog ranking,sorting and content analytics.


Forms of Ad Publication

Keso, a most famous IT blogger in China, usually writes IT observations on various Internet services. That means tons of traffic will be brought to you, if Keso comments on you. Actually, I have Google Analytics code on my blog, and notice that visitors are more likely to click links in the main text, rather than "Friendly Links".

Links in the main text seem naturally providing readers explanation and background knowledge, while "Friendly Links" are merely friendly to the blogger but may have nothing to do with the reader.

Instead of visiting blog sites, more and more readers tend to subscribe the Rss feeds of their favorite blogs, which definitely reduces the traffic of blog sites. Howerver,it's a dilemma that if bloggers supply only the summery in their feed, the readers will feel inconvenient and switch to other similar blogs. Due to the rapidness of information dissemination, there is always a second guy blogging something similar to what you are blogging. So it is believed that full content feed exporting is a tendency of blog service.

Thus, we can draw a conclusion that keyword links in the main text is the relatively effective and feasible form of ad publication. Now the issue becomes how to select the keywords.

Of course, the bloggers can add keyword links manually, but that will absolutely reduce the accuracy of keyword determination and efficiency of ad dissemination. The determination of keywords should be dynamic and based on an algorithm for blog ranking,sorting and content analytics, which will become smarter with the analysis on readers' feedback.

Therefore, the bloggers need do nothing with the ad keyword links,while a plugin or some script codes will get everything settled.


Is that evil?

No, it doesn't change the objectivity of blog entries.We may also add small marks on the ad-linked keywords to let the readers decide which to click and which to skip.
